A Different Way Of Being

Well, we took care of that last business. We went to significant lengths to describe the "world of people". It was a tough road, and we nailed it. Good job, me and you!

So, instead of talking about humanity at large, next, we will talk about people as individuals, and after that, we'll talk about you.

We mentioned earlier that most of the time, most people are assholes. By this we meant that, underneath a veneer of civility, most people spend most of their time manifesting a way of being that diminishes the quality of life. At the time, we were relating this observation to the "world of people." Now, we are going to take this observation and relate it to people taken one at a time, as individuals.

So, suppose you take one person out there in the world, whom we could call the mythical "average person." Without regard to that person's gender, that person is of average age, average height, average weight, makes an average annual income, etc.

Most importantly for our purposes, however, that mythical average person spends most of their time being an asshole, that is, that person spends most of his or her time being in a way that diminishes the quality of life. Our average person is that way because that's the way most people are, most of the time.

But that's just most of the time. What about the rest?

Our mythical average person spends most of the time being an asshole, but the rest of the time, he or she shows up as a joyful, loving being.

This means that--get this:

Most people spend some of their time being joyful, loving beings.

That's a big idea, so let's look at it again. This time, read it out loud, if you would:

Most people spend some of their time being joyful, loving beings.

Not all of the time. Not even most of the time.

But--and this is an enormous deal:

Some.
