Prime Path 43:
Not Persistent Enough
We're exploring the idea that the fundamental problems in your life are a result of the way that you are being.
Let's take a simple example. Let's say that, in your life, you are "not persistent enough", and, because of this, things aren't working.
Now, "not persistent enough" are three words that we are going to use to represent a way of being. This conceptual, word-based description is superficial, vague, and lacks impact. We'll talk more about these kinds of language problems down the road. But, for now, these words work well enough for this particular example.
So, in this example, we're saying that you're "not persistent enough." By this we are saying, "not persistent enough" is an aspect, or a component, of your way of being. It's a way that you are. You tend to give up on things before you get what you want, in situations in which, if you kept at it, you might have succeeded. You're a "quitter." You aren't "relentless." It's natural for you to be this way. It's native to you. It's inherent. It's instinctive. It comes easy to you. It feels natural for you. Giving up on stuff is what you feel like doing. Giving up on stuff is the way that you think. When you give up on stuff, you always come up with excuses, justifications, and rationales for having given up. Everybody knows this about you. Your mother knows this about you. Your father knows this about you. It frustrates people about you. It frustrates you about yourself. You'd get a lot more out of life if you were more persistent, but it just doesn't seem to happen. Being persistent isn't natural for you. It's not the way that you are.
So, because you are "not persistent enough", you have a problem with the "way that you are being." The way that you are being (that is, not persistent enough) isn't working for you. Said another way, "who you are" isn't working for you. It's not getting the job done. You aren't functioning effectively.
OK, that wasn't too hard. Let's move on.
