Prime Path 70:
Survival
You are a product of evolution.
Now, I don't want anyone to get upset by my declaration that you are a product of evolution. You see, you can't sensibly deny that evolution was a major factor in the "you" that sits there at this moment.
I realize that many people would argue that evolution doesn't explain all biological diversity. I consider those arguments to be credible. Now, I'm no biologist. I'm just an amateur spouting an opinion. However, if you ask me, I don't think that evolution explains all biological diversity. I think there are aspects of the world's biology, and of your biology, that are best explained by some kind of intelligent design.
But none of this matters. Evolution is real. Plainly, and obviously, evolution exists. And evolution had an overwhelming impact in your development as a being.
Well, evolution's modus operandi, so to speak, is "survival of the fittest." And your biological ancestors have been coming out in the winning end of the "survival of the fittest" equation for millions of years. You know how I know this? Because there you sit. Behind you, making up your evolutionary past, and completely responsible for your ass being in that chair right now, are millions of years of noteworthy and inarguable success at the survival thing.
So, ingrained in your "beingness", so to speak, is placing a value on survival, and everything that goes along with it. You care about survival--and everything that goes along with it. You give a shit about survival--and everything that goes along with it.
Your fundamental, ingrained, inherent, default purpose is survival (and everything that goes along with it).
So, to revisit our "nested dolls" metaphor, the most present, potent and significant doll that lies at the heart of your nested purposes has a word scrawled across it's little chest, and that word is "survival."
When your fundamental purpose is survival--and for most of you, that's most of the time--then every nested purpose flows from it, and shows up in accord with it. "Survival" then becomes your primordial, fundamental way of being.
That means that, for most of you, most of the time, every feeling that you feel, every thought that you think, every word that you say, and everything that you do, shows up in accord with, and is fundamentally governed by, your predominant, evolutionary based, default purpose of:
Survival.
