Resistance And Barriers 06:

Don't Quit

Now, look, this isn't all bad news. Like we said, you have barriers that work--barriers that make sense. You have a barrier that keeps you from driving like a maniac. Good. Makes sense. You have a barrier that keeps you from shooting up heroin. Good. Makes sense. You have a barrier that keeps you from hanging out with a person that you know to be a raving asshole. Good. Makes sense. You have a barrier that keeps you from running up a lot of debt. Good. Makes sense.

But--we can go ahead and express it this way--liberally infused amongst your "sensible" barriers are other barriers that are shutting your life down. You can't quit that lousy job. You can't change careers. You can't start that business you've been contemplating. You can't get out there and effectively seek a great relationship. You can't end a relationship that's damaging you. You can't talk to your boss about your working conditions, or ask for a raise. You can't reach out to others and make friends. You can't take that exotic vacation. You get tongue-tied around that good-looking person that you like. You can't make things work with your significant other. You can't talk to your kids. You can't get in shape.

In other words, you've got barriers that are closing down your personal growth, and keeping you stuck in life. We call these "resistance barriers." Resistance barriers exist because you anticipate that if you stray from your comfort zone, you are going to encounter discomfort.

Resistance barriers have been described as "fear of success." They've also been described as "self-sabotage." These descriptions work.

This kind of thing is far more prevalent than we commonly recognize. So, of course, this is a significant issue as you travel around out there in the world of people. In fact, getting you past your resistance barriers is one of SkyVillage's principal missions.

Here's why I am making such a big deal out of this:

As we've been saying, because personal growth often occurs as unsafe and uncomfortable, you are likely to have unconscious but very potent "resistance barriers" to personal growth. In working with SkyVillage, which is all about personal growth, you are very likely to approach and activate these barriers, which will then generate discomfort. My concern is that this discomfort will result in you constructing a new barrier that will exclude your continued participation in SkyVillage.

In other words, I'm heading off a situation in which you find yourself uncomfortable as you work with this coaching, such that you quit.

It is key to recognize that:

The discomfort that you might feel as you work with SkyVillage comes up because you are operating outside of your comfort zone, which means that this coaching is working.

The thing is, SkyVillage contains unusual ideas, and unusual coaching. It has to be unusual, because the same old stuff isn't getting jack squat done. So, SkyVillage is likely to intrude in areas in which actual discomfort is going to come into play.

In other words, because so much of this coaching is unusual, then it is likely that difficult, uncomfortable stuff is going to come up as you participate around here. It's the kind of difficult and uncomfortable stuff that you usually avoid. Well, if you quit SkyVillage because you feel uncomfortable or impaired, then you aren't going to get any benefit from it. So, I am offering this "resistance and barriers" coaching in a rather persistent manner because I want you to work through these kinds of challenges and stick with this coaching.

That's because I know that this coaching works, and I am committed to your growth as a being.

In fact, as we said, in an example of irony, or the proverbial Catch-22, the discomfort and difficulty that you will encounter in SkyVillage, which is likely to make you want to quit, means that this coaching is actually working.

You get it.
