Extra Credit 01:
Keeping A Journal
The first Extra Credit idea that we're going to explore is "keeping a journal."
Over time, I suspect that you've encountered coaching concerning the benefits of journal work. Well, you're encountering more of it now.
Making regular entries in a journal can, over time, occasion noteworthy, and perhaps even spectacular, results.
Journal work gets things unstuck. Journal work gets things moving. Journal work generates traction, as we say around here.
But what should you write in your journal? Well, just about anything is useful. So, yes, it's good, even great, to record straight up descriptions of tasks and activities: things you did, people you talked to, places you went, stuff you bought--you know, things like that.
However, in your journal work, it's a good idea to discuss issues and struggles connected with challenges that you are facing. Writing down thoughts, feelings, considerations and ideas about projects you are undertaking, and/or places that you are stuck, will usually get and keep things moving.
It's a good idea to make semi-regular entries--say, two or three times a week, or more. Also, take some time every so often to look over your past entries.
You are likely to find that the times that things moved fastest and best in your life were the times that you kept a journal. I highly recommend it!
(And, of course, you can use the word "diary" rather than journal, if you prefer.)
